Blooming Buds Project

"Blooming Buds" project which aims for an overall development of children in 40 villages of Namakkal block besides the satellite support of 662 families affected by HIV/AIDS implemented from September 2007-September 2011 with the funding support of Terre des Hommes-Netherlands. The project activities aim for the overall development of children in terms of health, education, environment protection, psycho-social and social protection strengthening. Promotion of children groups and women self help groups are also part of the project activities. Life Skills Education was also being taught for the children.

A residential school (Short Stay) for 65 children is being run by WORD in Namakkal under this project.  22 children from the target working areas and the residential centre were enrolled till the academic year 2011-2012 in standard 3 in Rural Institute of Community Education- Mathagondappalli Model School, (RICE- MMS) a school affiliated with CBSE and caters to children from all sections of society including the children from the underprivileged strata of four southern states. One more student has been selected to pursue education in RICE-MMS for the academic year 2012-2013 from the residential school.

A vocational training institute offers training in tailoring with embroidery and computer trade at present. This vocational training institute aims to provide earning skills besides learning skills. Considering the importance of socio-economic development, the socially and economically deprived families are being given micro credit assistance to initiate various income generation activities.

In the current phase from October 2011, blooming buds project focuses on the children abuse and exploitation issues in poultry, power loom and brick kilns in Namakkal District with prevention, protection and prosecution approaches.  A day learning centre has been established in Pottirettipatti to cater to the educational needs of the school drop outs in brick chamber families. Apart from this 12 Alternative Learning Centres and 8 Retention study centres were also established under this project.  A tailoring centre has also been established in Pallipalayam.

Terre des Hommes, Netherlands supported WORD to construct the short stay home for children and the vocational training centre in Teachers Colony, Thummankurichi Road in Namakkal Municipality.
